I noticed that on my drive from New River Gorge NP down to Asheville where I'd be doing some mountain biking, I passed very close to Mount Rogers, which happens to be Virginia's state highpoint. I haven't exactly been aggressively pursuing my once-goal of hitting all the state highpoints, especially once I realized how anti-climactic most of the eastern ones were...but it fit the trip and it sounded kind of cool. It's in an area known as the Grayson Highlands, most of the hike is on the Appalachian Trail, and as a bonus I saw a bunch of wild ponies, which the area is also known for. No view at the top though, only trees.
