Crater Lake was the first stop on our four national park road trip to the Great Northwest. It was formed when a volcano called Mount Mazama erupted 7,000 or so years ago, not unlike Mount St. Helens. Over the years the caldera has filled with water from rain, snow, and ice, and is the clearest water with the bluest color you will ever see.
